My husband and I spent a very much-needed and relaxing birthday weekend at Devil’s Fork in South Carolina. His mother and step father joined us in the next site over, and it was nice to be able to visit with them. We brought the boat and the girls (our dogs, Piper and River) and just chilled out. It was a reminder that I need to slow down and not be so go-go-go all the time, although it is super hard for me not to be!
One day we were out on the boat, we got caught in a rain storm. We had to go through it to get back to the boat ramp, and at first I was so pissed. I am like a cat when it comes to being wet. I hate it. Plus, it hurts when you’re going 40+ mph in the rain!
I eventually chose to lighten up and remember that I was going to die as a result of getting wet. Honestly, in that moment, I was thankful for being out in the rain because it was like a cleansing. My frazzled mind and emotions were brought to rest.
If you are looking for a great place to camp in South Carolina, I recommend this area. Lake Jocassee is, to me, the cleanest and most beautiful lake I have ever been on. I will not swim in a lake, river, or any public pool because I am super paranoid about bacteria and parasites (thanks, microbiology course! I am still scarred 10 years later!), that is a lake I would swim in and would let our girls swim in.
